A Brief History Of The SocietyThe roots of the Beverley-Nogent twinning stem from the fact that the Deputy Mayor at the time, Monsieur Daniel Roux, was married to Gillian, who originated from Beverley. The couple forged links with various head teachers during the nineties with a view to promoting different exchanges and consequently the 2 associations were formed. Mr Tony Knight from Beverley and Mme Brigitte Vigliano from Nogent were instrumental in this process.
The first meeting of the Beverley Anglo-French Society took place in September 1992 at The Tiger Inn, Beverley. April 1993 then saw exchanges taking place between Beverley High School, Beverley Grammar School and the Nogentais over in France and the return visit to Beverley took place in 1995. 2 years later Mr Darryl Stephenson, Chief Executive of East Riding Council signed the twinning charter on behalf of Beverley in the absence of a Mayor and a Town Council. Happily, the following year the formal twinning ceremony took place on 2 May 1998, in Nogent with the Mayor of Beverley, Councillor Norman Dickinson, Mr David Kilpatrick, President of the Beverley Anglo-French Society and the Mayor of Nogent, Monsieur Claude Brunet all present. |
