2008

Anne Ryan, our very French president, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Madeleine and astounded us all by also establishing her franchise with La Jolie Ronde, here in Beverley which is doing extremely well, not surprisingly!

2007

On March 23 2007, 11 members of the society flew to France to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the twinning between Beverley and Nogent-sur-Oise, for a full report with photographs and to find out more...

2006

The highlight of 2006 for the Beverley Anglo-French Society was, without a doubt, the 4 day visit to Beverley by a group of Nogentais back in May.

We were delighted to welcome the President, Daniele BOULANCHE and 6 members of their society, Chantal DODANNE, Marcelle et Guy COLLEDANI, Jean-Marc BOURDON, Pierre BIRGE et Michel MILBURY.

Day 1

They arrived from Leeds/Bradford airport to a Bucks Fizz and nibbles reception at Sue Dudill's house. From there, they went on to enjoy an evening meal with their host families from the society. Very kindly, Tony & Margaret Knight, Jock & Diane Thomson, Roy & June Parkinson and Philip & Barbara Redfern, all provided excellent hospitality for our French visitors during their stay.

Day 2

The next morning we all met up at Lempicka, in Wednesday Market and then went on to enjoy a superb bilingual guided tour of Beverley Minster which included a somewhat challenging walk up to the towers - definitely not for the faint hearted! Anne Ryan, our then recently appointed President, provided the French! Afterwards we all headed off to Nellies where we tucked into a well deserved lunch in somewhat typically English surroundings which I'm sure the French found extremely interesting! A shopping opportunity was next on the itinerary when particularly the ladies, seized the opportunity to buy souvenirs of their visit to England. That evening a spectacular event had been organised at Lazaat in Willerby, when almost 50 members and their guests took over The Monsoon Suite. We were delighted to welcome as our special guest for the evening, Mr Matthew Snowdon, recently appointed Mayor of Beverley, his consort Ms Emma Hoddinott and Councillor Simon Pickering. The food was magnificent and we were fortunate to have The Journal photograher present to provide us with a pictorial record of the evening.

Day 3

The next day we all arrived a Burton Constable Hall via various routes; some headed out East to view the crumbling coast line and others to the awesome Humber Bridge. We enjoyed a splendid home-made lunch at the Hall, followed by an extremely interesting tour of the house. That evening, thanks to Jock & Diane Thomson, a farewell party was held in Walkington and our French visitors kindly supplied us with half a dozen bottles of champagne to kick start the celebrations. All members were invited and everyone present kindly brought a dish and a bottle. Jock entertained us with the bagpipes and accordian which we all loved and the French found very interesting (particulary the 'myth' about Scotsmen and their kilts!).

Day 4

On Thursday morning after a hearty traditional English breakfast, sadly, we waved goodbye to the Nogentais who were thrilled with their visit to England and have already invited us over to France to enjoy the delights of our favourite destination in the world! I think the answer is yes please! What happened when we went ...
